Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson’s

Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson’s is an award-winning program of seated exercises. The DVD/video offers a carefully structured, Parkinson’s-specific exercise routine that is also motivational and fun. The exercises address typical Parkinson’s movement challenges such as balance, flexibility, walking, posture, vocal range and facial expression. A pilot research study has shown that participants using this program improved in balance and mobility and in measures of activities of daily living and quality of life. The DVD/video can be done alone, with a caregiver or friend, or in a group.

The DVD/video includes three sections:

  • “How to Do Motivating Moves” (45 minutes)
  • “The Exercise Class” (36 minutes)
  • “Practical Tips for Daily Living” (4 minutes)

Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson’s is available on DVD, VHS, PAL or SECAM international videotape formats.

"Exercise is critical to the overall care of a patient with Parkinson's. Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson's is upbeat and inspiring, as well as educational. It also provides extremely helpful tips on mobility. Janet Hamburg's expertise and excellent teaching skills put this video at the top of the class."

Dr. Lucien Côte, Neurologist and Parkinson's Specialist, Columbia University Medical Center, New York City

"I highly recommend Janet Hamburg's Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson's. Janet is a gifted teacher and she has created an inspiring video that is not only for people with Parkinson's but also for caregivers and anyone interested in a life-affirming approach to healthy exercise. It is the only exercise video I've seen that speaks to the whole person."

Harriet Lerner, Ph.D., psychologist and author of 'The Dance of Anger'

"The combination of a really good leader - Janet contributes enormously to this - and the sequences matched to the music may motivate people to be more faithful about doing this than other kinds of exercise they've been assigned to do."

Ruth Hagestuen, Director of Field Sciences, National Parkinson Foundation, Miami, FL
